Two more prisoners who escaped from the Wellington Prison in Mthatha on Thursday have been re-arrested, said Eastern Cape police.

Inspector Mzukisi Fatyela said police had managed to arrest two who were part of a gang of four.

The four managed to escape by sawing through the burglar bars. They broke the door lock and passed through the ceiling, Fatyela said.

Earlier on police arrested one of the men close to the prison, he said.

Fatyela said the prisoners were all convicted armed robbers.
