Catch the Roseanne show on SABC 3 to see whether the young pretender is up to the challenge. With the successful Roseanne sitcom a thing of the past now the star actress has turned her hand to celebrity interviewing.
SABC3's replacement for Oprah is certainly not second-rate. Roseanne was the US's most anticipated Talk show by the time it aired there in September. It features the woman formerly known as Roseanne Barr/ Arnold/ and just Roseanne - who has through the years developed a strong relationship with audiences of her TV sitcom and stand-up comedy. The move to talk show host was met with great enthusiasm, perhaps more so than when Rosie O' Donnell did so last year.
"No one relates to real people like Roseanne, and no one has ever touched the heart and soul of the American public like she has," says Michael King, CEO of producers King World. About 158 stations carry the show in the States. It is currently distributed in 30 countries.
Called among other things "the funniest disturber of the peace", she comes off nine years of the aforementioned sitcom, bringing with her an inimitable style, humour and needless to say, fun. "I love to talk to people, I love to listen to people, and I can relate to their everyday problems with humour and compassion," says Roseanne. "Audiences today want simple, direct, one-to-one communication, and I'm going to give it to them."
Critically the show was met positively by among others, the New York Times, the Associated Press and USA Today. It will feature interviews with the biggest names in sports, fashion, show business, politics, arts, and everything else interesting. More than that, Roseanne takes on the persona of a number of different characters in the show, showcasing a huge talent for entertainment and sometimes poignant commentary.
Bearing in mind that her last show Roseanne took only one year to be the number one show on television, this will certainly be a show to watch.
THE ROSEANNE SHOW will be screened on SABC 3, Mondays to Thursdays at 17:00 from Monday 2 November. It will also be repeated as the final programme each evening.
