Last night, 25-year-old Gail Nkoane from Kimberley became the first Top 10 contestant to be sent home by the Idols voters.
Gail could have been given a reprieve by the Idols judges after she was given one last chance to impress them at tonight's spectacular Results Show with her performance of the Pink hit, Please Don't Leave Me. But the judges only have one veto that they can exercise during the Top 10 phase, and Gail was not the Idol that they chose to save.
A poll of Idols 6's official radio partners around the country revealed that most listeners predicted this week's results correctly. 94.7 Highveld Stereo's Bailey Schneider was in the live audience at the Mosaïek Teatro and she revealed that their poll had Gail in the crosshairs, and 94.5 Kfm Ryan O' Connor in Cape Town and Algoa fm's Charlton Tobias agreed.
For East Coast Radio in Durban, Abi Ray reported that their listeners though Pieter West would leave, and from the heartland, OFM's Tim Thabethe thought it would be Jess.
Jamie-Lee Sexton (22) from Johannesburg and Jess Yallup (22) from Durban were clearly disheartened to find themselves in the bottom three when Idols host ProVerb announced the voting results, but they live to fight another day in the Top 9 Spectacular at the Mosaïek Teatro this Friday evening [10 September]. Tickets to the show are now available from Computicket at only R40 and R20 and the special celebrity guest judge this week will be Tamara Dey from Flash Republic!
Last night's special guest stars in the Idols Results Show was South Africa's top band, The Parlotones, and tonight (8 September) the Top 9 will return the favour when they open for the band on the second leg of their World Tour at Montecasino in Johannesburg.
