South African actor Nakhane Toure has received international recognition for his role in the movie The Wound or Inxeba at the Palm Springs International Film Festival this past weekend.
The film, which last year picked up prizes in Los Angeles and London has also made the short-list for the upcoming Oscar nominations in the best foreign language category.
The movie faced heavy criticism for its portrayal of the sacred Xhosa initiation ritual, however it well received by international audiences as they praised it.
The Federation of International Film Critics awarded Toure with best actor in a foreign language film an award that last year went to Gael Garcia Bernal.
The Wound filmma will find out on 24 January when the Oscar nominations are announced if the film scores one of the five coveted spots for best foreign language.
