South African actress and musician, KB wants to prove that black culture and Afrikaans "can co-exist" with her new 7de Laan role.
Speaking to TshisaLIVE, KB revealed that while her role did not require her "to speak much Afrikaans", she insisted on "more Afrikaans dialogue".
"My character wasn't supposed to speak much Afrikaans but I actually requested from the producers that they include more Afrikaans dialogue," KB told TshisaLIVE.
"I have studied Afrikaans and I feel confident about my abilities, but for me it is more about showing that Afrikaans and black culture are not from different worlds and can co-exist."
KB also told the publication that the 7de Laan team was very "accommodating" towards her, and she never once experienced any racial issues on set.
"I felt like part of the family from the moment I arrived and I have not once felt like my skin colour or culture was a problem on set," KB added to TshisaLIVE.
On why she decided to take the job on the Afrikaans soapie, KB told TshisaLIVE that she wanted to be seen "in a whole new light".
"…when 7de Laan called me it immediately felt right."
"I knew that I had to take the role. It represented not only a new challenge for me but also a chance for people to see me in a whole new light. That is what is most important to me."
