Award-winning singer Judith Sephuma is being investigated after her vehicle hit and killed a 79-year-old woman in Soweto last week, IOL News reports.

Warrant Officer Kay Makhubela told the website that a case of reckless or negligent driving had initially been opened, but after the pedestrian died in hospital, it became a case culpable homicide.

"After the investigation is completed, the case will be taken to court for a decision,"  Makhubela was quoted as saying.

No court date has yet been set, and the Cape Times reports that police are still waiting for a post-mortem report, witness statements, and a reading of the speed at which the car had been travelling when the accident occurred.

According to Sapa, the accident happened in Jabulani at about 7am on Monday (28 January) and Sephuma took the woman to Chris Hani-Baragwanath Hospital, where she died two hours later.
