Katy Perry has been spotted on a romantic dinner date with John Mayer.

The Wide Awake singer — whose divorce from Russell Brand was finalised last month — was seen enjoying a meal with Gravity singer Mayer at Hollywood's Chateau Marmont on Wednesday night (1 August), and onlookers claim that they looked smitten with each other.

One eyewitness told Us Weekly that Mayer – who has previously dated Jennifer Aniston, Taylor Swift and Jessica Simpson – and Perry "were holding hands across the table, sneaking kisses, and laughing."

They were then photographed leaving the exclusive venue in Mayer's car.

Insiders claim that the pair – who have been spotted out and about together a number of times over the last few weeks – aren't "serious" about their relationship just yet.

A source added: "They're just hooking up right now. It's not serious — yet!"

Perry — who had been dating Florence + the Machine guitarist Robert Ackroyd since splitting from Brand — recently revealed that she had not given up on love, and was waiting for a man to woo her.

Perry was quoted as saying: "I'm a woman who likes to be courted, strongly. Never say never, I guess you'd say. I'll let love take the lead on that."
