Katy Perry is officially a free woman.

The divorce of the Firework singer and British comedian Russell Brand was finalised this weekend – after 14 months of marriage together.

The couple, who cited irreconcilable differences in the divorce filing on 8 February, had to wait six months to become legally single under Californian law.

Perry said Brand’s absence during her California Dreams tour was one of the reasons why their marriage was so short-lived.

Asked if his absence was the catalyst  for the break-up, Katy reportedly said: "Yes, if I could edit it any other way I would but that is exactly what it was.

"I always had plans to make this record (Teenage Dream) and usually with a record, you tour.

"Touring is always important to me. It's like a big IOU to my fans, because I know they are the reason I exist."

Perry is said to be in a relationship with Florence + the Machine guitarist Robert Ackroyd, while Brand has been linked to a string of women.

She added: "There are times I go out and meet people and flirt, but it's not really appropriate to have anything serious. For me, right now, I'm totally not looking. I'm just looking to heal. And I'm on that path."

Brand reportedly didn’t ask for a cent from Perry’s estimated £45-million fortune.
