Adele reportedly once got so drunk before performing that she fell off a stool on stage.
According to a new unofficial biography on the 24-year-old singer by Marc Shapiro, Adele suffered from a drinking problem during her first tour and often forgot the lyrics to her songs – which she is said to have described as "the worst thing ever".
Apparently the Rolling in the Deep singer told Shapiro in an interview: "I got so drunk by the time I went on at 2am I had forgotten the words to my own songs ... It was the worst thing ever."
According to Shapiro – who also wrote biographies on Justin Bieber and JK Rowling – Adele’s then-boyfriend cheated on her during the tour, which made her turn to alcohol.
Shapiro told In Touch magazine: "Adele would drink more than normal to salve the heartbreak."
According to the author, Adele "loved the drama surrounding boys who treated her badly.
"She had a fairly good self-image and seemed to handle it okay on the surface, but I'm sure it bothered her on a deep, emotional level."
Adele: The Biography is scheduled for release in the UK on 17 July.
