Ashlee Simpson has confirmed she's pregnant with husband Pete Wentz's child.

"While many have speculated about this, we wanted to wait until after the first trimester to officially confirm that we are expecting our first child," the recently married couple revealed on Wentz's website friendsorenemies.com.

"This is truly the most joyous time in our lives and we are excited to share the happy news and start our family."

The singer and Fall Out Boy bassist tied the knot on 17 May. After the wedding the bride told People magazine: "I would love to have a big family one day."

"A big soccer team or a band!" added Wentz.

Since their honeymoon in Turks and Caicos, the singer has changed her name to Ashlee Wentz although professionally she'll go by Ashlee Simpson-Wentz.
