Wagner and his late wife, Natalie Wood, became involved with the 'Charlie?s Angels' series when they both agreed to star in the TV movie 'Love Affair'. The film was produced by Aaron Spelling and Leonard Goldberg, and gave the couple part interest for five further TV shows, the lawsuit says.
BBC News Online reports that it was one of these ideas that became the Charlie's Angels series - about a group of female private eyes, starring Farrah Fawcett, Jaclyn Smith and Kate Jackson.
Sony later assumed the rights to the series from Spelling's production company, but Wagner reportedly alleges that he never received his share of the profits from either one of the recent blockbuster movies.
The first film took more than $125-million at the US box office and the sequel has so far grossed $67-million, according to the report.
Wagner's lawsuit demands that Sony include profits from the films in his share of the TV series profits.
Wagner's lawyer, Samuel Pryor is quoted by BBC News Online as saying: "This has to do with whether or not his entitlement to a share in the television series extends to the movie."
