Sylvester Stallone broke his neck while shooting his new movie 'The Expendables'.

The Hollywood action star has revealed he underwent emergency surgery and had a metal plate inserted in his neck after a stunt went wrong. Stallone (63) suffered the injury during a fight scene with wrestler ?Stone Cold? Steve Austin.

"Man, it was seven guys, kicking each other's a*s, one guy tougher than the next. No joke, our stunt guys were begging for mercy. Actually, my fight with 'Stone Cold' Steve Austin was so vicious that I ended up getting a hairline fracture in my neck. I'm not joking," he told FHM magazine. "I haven't told anyone this, but I had to have a very serious operation afterwards. I now have a metal plate in my neck."

'The Expendables' also stars Mickey Rourke, Jet Li, Jason Statham, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Bruce Willis and Dolph Lundgren and tells the story of a gang of mercenaries who travel to South America to overthrow a dictator.

Stallone directed and wrote the action movie and has revealed the all-star cast took part in several risky sequences while on set. "Man, those guys were up for it. They got out of bed at 5.30am just to shoot a small five-minute scene," he explained.
