Andrew Lloyd Webber, the composer of such hit musicals as 'The Phantom of the Opera' and 'Cats', was back in hospital on Wednesday after developing an infection from an operation for prostate cancer.
"Andrew has been re-admitted to hospital tonight following his operation for prostate cancer," said a statement posted on his website late Tuesday.
"He has been advised that while the operation was entirely successful, he has developed a post-operative 'chronic infection' which needs immediate treatment. He still hopes to back at work in the New Year."
The 61-year-old's spokesman revealed he had cancer last month but said it was in the very early stages and he expected to be back at work this year.
Lloyd Webber is behind a string of stage hits including 'Joseph and the Technicolor Dreamcoat' and 'Starlight Express', and earlier this month launched the long-awaited sequel to Phantom in London, 'Love Never Dies'.AFP
