Joost van der Westhuizen's wife Amor Vittone has spoken out about his confirmed involvement in the sex-tape scandal.

Vittone said that she was in their kitchen cooking in August when the former rugby star came clean.

"I was completely shocked," said an emotional Vittone during an interview with Jacaranda FM.

"It felt like my heart had been ripped out. I turned around and did not say anything."

"I just looked and him [and I said]: 'I defended you, I trusted you' that's what I did. He didn't know what to say. He just said 'I'm sorry, it's me'."

"I just really feel I've been let down but at the same time I feel sorry for him. Because I do. I do love him."

Vittone added that their marriage was "very strained".

"I do not know what the future holds but we are working on it."

The video showed van der Westhuizen snorting a white substance and engaging in sexual activities with another woman, revealed to be a former stripper.

Amor revealed that after Joost had confessed to her, she watched the video and "died a million deaths".
