'District 9' star Sharlto Copley has been linked to the role of Murdock in the forthcoming 'A-Team' film.

The South African film producer, who stepped in front of the camera for the first time as Wikus van der Merwe in the Soweto sci-fi blockbuster, is the latest name mentioned to play the part of Captain HM "Howlin' Mad" Murdock.

Director Joe Carnahan has sent an offer to Copley but the South African has not yet accepted, reports Blackfilm.

Previously Jim Carrey, Robert Downey Jr, 'Star Trek' star Chris Pine, Woody Harrelson and Steve Buscemi were amongst the actors under consideration as the mercenary team's pilot.

Set for release next year, the film version of the popular '80s TV series will feature Liam Neeson as Col. John 'Hannibal' Smith, 'The Hangover' star Bradley Cooper as Lt. Templeton 'Faceman' Peck and UFC fighter Quinton Ramone Jackson as Sgt. Bosco 'B.A.' Baracus.

The series, which was a staple of South African TV, focused on four former United States Army Special Forces members who work as undercover soldiers of fortune after being falsely accused of a crime by the military.
