Former reality television star Nicole Richie welcomed her second child on Wednesday, a baby boy named Sparrow James Midnight, the 27-year-old starlet announced.

Richie and her musician partner Joel Madden already had a baby girl, Harlow, born in January 2008.

"In the middle of night, the very early hours of September 9, 2009 Sparrow James Midnight Madden was born to Nicole Richie and Joel Madden," a statement on Richie's website said.

"He weighs 7lbs 14oz. Nicole, Joel, Harlow and Sparrow are all doing well."

Richie, the daughter of singer Lionel Richie, is best known for her role in reality series 'The Simple Life' where she starred alongside Paris Hilton.

In 2007 she served just under two hours behind bars after admitting driving under the influence of alcohol and an unspecified drug. It followed her arrest in December 2006 for driving the wrong way down a Los Angeles-area freeway.
