South African born 'District 9' director Neil Blomkamp has revealed that "the studio wants a sequel" and that they are already jokingly referring to "District 10".

In an exclusive interview with The Sci-Fi Movie Page he also talks candidly about his experiences working on the 'Halo' movie he was supposed to have directed with Peter Jackson ('Lord of the Rings', 'King Kong') producing.

He says that his involvement with the project is definitely "dead" and that he isn’t particularly interested in directing it even he were asked to do so.

'District 9', about alien refugees in South Africa, made $37.4-million in North America over the weekend earning it the number one spot at the US box office over the weekend, edging out 'GI Joe: Rise of Cobra' to number two in the process.

Even though he wrote 'District 9' with no sequel in mind, Blomkamp admits that he has "an inclination of an idea" for one and would definitely be interested in directing a sequel.

It would seem that the 29-year-old director, who made his name making commercials, is more interested in it being a sequel than a prequel. It would again be set in South Africa and see star Sharlto Copley reprise his role as Wikus van der Merwe.

But next up for the director when he gets back to Vancouver is a sci-fi project, which will be set on a "different planet, way in the future".
