British singer Amy Winehouse is on the road to recovery from her drug addiction after an eight-month stay in the Caribbean, her mother said in an interview published on Tuesday.
The 25-year-old songstress, who has been plagued with alcohol and drug problems, arrived back in Britain last week from the island of Saint Lucia.
Her estranged husband Blake Fielder-Civil divorced her in London on Thursday on grounds of adultery, after two years of marriage.
"A year ago, everyone was saying: 'Will she get through this, will she even survive?'," Janis Winehouse told Closer magazine.
"And look at her now. We've got the old Amy back. I always knew she'd come through it. And I know she doesn't want to go back to the drugs."
She admitted that her daughter still had a drink problem.
"Saint Lucia was good in many ways because there were no hard drugs around, but she was bored, so she drank," she said.
"I've spent some time with her since she got back. She's put on a bit of weight and looks better than she has in a long time.
"She was busy cooking, so that's a good sign that she's actually eating. I think she's pleased to be home and I know she's happier now."
The 25-year-old won five Grammy awards off the back of her 2006 second album "Back to Black" and the hit single "Rehab", but has since been engaged in a well-documented struggle with drugs.
She had a tempestuous relationship with drug user Fielder-Civil, who spent much of last year in prison for a vicious attack on a pub landlord and a subsequent cover-up attempt.
