Mel Gibson will become a father for the eighth time, the actor has confirmed.
Appearing on the 'Tonight Show' on Monday night, the 'Lethal Weapon' star confirmed earlier reports that his girlfriend Oksana Grigorieva is pregnant.
Earlier in the day, the actor's representative confirmed that Gibson and the Russian-born musician were expecting.
The news comes six weeks after Gibson's wife of 28 years, Robyn, filed for divorce.
The 53-year 'Braveheart' actor used his appearance on the 'Tonight Show' to clear up rumours about the split and his new relationship.
When asked by host Jay Leno, Gibson took blame for the divorce.
"My wife and I, our marriage ended three years ago and we've been separated ever since then," Gibson explained.
"These things happen. It's unfortunate, it's sad, but you know she is an admirable woman — we still got kids together. We're friends."
Pressed by Leno, Gibson added: "Look. When it's all said and done, I did a pretty good hatchet job on my marriage myself. I'm to blame. If you're inclined to judge, put it here."
When Leno asked about the reports that Grigorieva is pregnant, Gibson confirmed: "This is true. We're gonna have a child."
Earlier, a Gibson representative had also confirmed the pregnancy.
"He couldn't be happier," the rep told People. "He loves being a father."
The pregnancy is not linked to Gibson's divorce, the flacker added.
"This has nothing to do with the divorce. Mel didn't even know Oksana was pregnant when they filed."
Gibson already has seven children with Robyn while Grigorieva has a son with former James Bond star Timothy Dalton.
The singer, who is signed to Gibson's record label, is currently in her second trimester.
