Kiefer Sutherland has apologised to a fashion designer he allegedly headbutted at a New York nightclub.

The star apologised to Jack McCollough after a scuffle in which the designer's nose was broken on 5 May 2009, People magazine reports.

Sutherland said in a statement: "I am sorry about what happened that night and sincerely regret that Mr. McCollough was injured."

McCollough replied in a statement: "I appreciate Mr. Sutherland's statement and wish him well."
