Jamie Foxx is sorry for urging 16-year-old Miley Cyrus to "make a sex tape and grow up".

The comedian, who made the comments on his Foxxhole radio show over the weekend, apologised on Tuesday's episode of the 'Tonight' show.

"I so apologise... and this is sincere," he told 'Tonight' host Jay Leno.

"I am a comedian, and you guys know that whatever I say, I don't mean any of it," the 'Ray' star explained.

"I have a radio show," he continued. "We're really the black Howard Stern. We go at everybody. There was a situation with Miley Cyrus, and I just want to say, I apologise for what I said," Foxx added.

"I didn't mean it maliciously. You know I'm a comedian. You know my heart."

On Foxx's Sunday radio show, Cyrus was mentioned in the context of her backstage access feud with Radiohead.

"Who is Miley Cyrus?" Foxx asked. "The one with all the gums? She needs to get a gum transplant!"

He added that the 'Hannah Montana' star should "get like Britney Spears and do some heroin. Do like Lindsay Lohan and start seeing a lesbian and get some crack in your pipe. Catch chlamydia on a bicycle seat."

Foxx's apology follows an outcry from 'Hannah Montana' fans.

"Miley, I apologise, so I'll call you," the 41-year-old actor said on Tuesday.

"I got a daughter too, so I completely understand."
