Lindsay Lohan's mother Dina has branded her daughter a "genius".

The 'Mean Girls' actress has been praised for her intellect and ambition by her 46-year-old mother.

According to Dina, Lindsay, 23, is on the brink of a return to Hollywood - but this time she will be behind the camera.

She said: "She's a genius and has such a good heart. Lindsay will direct one day. She loves directing!"

Although Dina is predicting a successful comeback, she says the most important thing her daughter can do in the future is to fall hopelessly in love.

The 'Living Lohan' star said: "You know what, I taught my children to love. And if you fall in love, life is about that. Family, it's not about work. You want goals, but you still want someone to share that with, so it's kind of an open ended question.

"We're all looking for love and someone to be with; someone to share that with. My parents have been married for 50 years, we see that and that is important. It's work, but you want to go home and have a family. Work is not forever."

Meanwhile, Lindsay has been spotted rowing again with her on/off girlfriend Samantha Ronson. DJ Samantha recently dined with 'Sopranos' actress Drea de Matteo, 37, at Malibu eatery Nobu.

Lindsay was later captured on video banging on her 31-year-old lover's door at 6am trying to get inside her house.

A furious Samantha eventually let her in, and the pair erupted into their latest argument.
