Tom Cruise says he and Katie Holmes are planning to have more children.

The 'Valkyrie' actor and his wife have one daughter, two-year-old Suri — but Cruise is keen to increase his brood.

Cruise — who also has two adopted children, Isabella and Connor, with ex-wife Nicole Kidman — said: "We'll have more children, I'm saying this but Kate's not here."

Cruise also revealed having Suri brought back all the joys of fatherhood and says he thinks of himself as a "helpful husband".

He added: "It was especially nice as it was Kate's first time. I've been around kids my whole life but it's different when they're yours. So I feel I was a very helpful husband and excited about it.

"I'll never forget my first night with Bella. I was looking at every breath she took, and we laugh about it now as I told her: 'I think I kept you up more than you did me that first night.'

"It's been very magical to have that and Kate is so calm and loving and Suri is the same."

Cruise also admitted jumping up and down on Oprah Winfrey's sofa screaming "I'm in love" soon after he began dating Katie in 2005 was a mistake.

He added to The Daily Mirror: "I could have handled things better. I was surprised at the criticism but it brought everyone closer together — Katie's entire family and my family. Going through that stuff is not pleasant and I think it hit an extreme, but Kate's a very sure and confident and strong woman. She gets it, you know."

'Valkyrie', which also features Kenneth Branagh, Bill Nighy and Eddie Izzard, is released on 26 December in the US.
