'Monster' actress Charlize Theron has been added to the cast of an upcoming thriller called 'The Tourist'.

In the film — which is a remake of a French 2005 movie called 'Anthony Zimmer', directed by Jérôme Salle — Theron will take on the role of an Interpol agent alongside Tom Cruise.

The film's screenplay was written by Julian Fellowes, who penned the script for murder mystery 'Gosford Park', with it currently being polished by 'The Usual Suspects' writer Christopher McQuarrie — who also co-wrote Cruise's upcoming historic thriller 'Valkyrie'.

The film tells the story of Theron’s character, who uses an unwitting American tourist as part of her ploy to get rid of an elusive criminal with whom she once had an affair.

Production for 'The Tourist' is set to commence in March 2009
