The talented and stylish Catherine Zeta-Jones is set to follow film icon Elizabeth Taylor's footsteps by playing the role of Egyptian queen Cleopatra in a new film.

The new version of the movie, with the current working title being 'Cleo', provides a slight twist as the classic love story between Cleopatra and the Roman general Mark Anthony. The film is set to be a spectacular musical set in the 1920's filled with singing and dancing to a rock 'n roll soundtrack.

A role in a musical should not be too unfamiliar for the Welsh beauty, who won the Best Supporting Actress Academy Award in 2002 for her portrayal of Velma Kelly in the hugely successful musical 'Chicago'.

Steven Soderbergh — who is well known for his work on 'Ocean's 11' and 'Erin Brockovich' — will direct the new movie, reuniting with Zeta-Jones for the first time since they worked together on the multi-award winning film 'Traffic'.

'Australia' star Hugh Jackman is tipped to play Mark Anthony, the role made famous by Richard Burton.

The indie rock band Guided By Voices will provide the soundtrack, die to have a more contemporary feel with the script penned by the bands former bass player James Greer.
