Harvey Weinstein’s ex-wife, Georgina Chapman, maintains she was “not a victim” of her estranged husband.
This is according to close friend and fellow designer Keren Craig.
The 41-year-old Chapman split from the former Weinstein Company chairman last year shortly after he was accused of sexual harassment by a string of female employees.
The former couple have two children together ̶ seven-year-old daughter India and four-year-old son Dashiell.
Chapman’s close friend Keren Craig, with whom she co-founded the fashion brand Marchesa, says the designer does not consider herself a “victim” of Weinstein but is rather trying to move on with her life.
"She doesn't see herself as a victim,” Craig said. “That's very important. She's just trying to get on with her life. You've got to realise George is such a strong woman. Don't get me wrong, it's a very hard time, but she's quite inspirational," she added.
Craig also disclosed that she and Chapman were busy with discussions to determine what would be the best way for the fashion brand to support the Time’s Up and #MeToo movements. Both movements came about soon after the accusation against Weinstein and other Hollywood executives were made public.
Craig added that they wanted to support the movements. “We want to make a gesture. We need to properly process how it can be the most beneficial."
Chapman’s decision to divorce 65-year-old Weinstein was announced only a few days after the New York Times published an article in which a number of his alleged victims first spoke out against the movie mogul.
This decision, Craig says, stunned her and showed how “incredibly strong” her fashion friend was.
In an interview with Grazia magazine, Craig was asked if she ever suspected Weinstein’s alleged behaviour to which she replied: "Absolutely not. No it was a total shock. It was upsetting and my heart was broken for George. I actually couldn't believe how incredibly strong she was. She threw herself in to work, she threw herself into protecting her kids. Marchesa is her life, it is her passion."
Chapman has previously been accused by celebrities of knowing about Weinstein’s misconduct and for having her now ex-husband bully starts into wearing her clothing.
