Amy Winehouse has denied reports that she attacked a fan at the Glastonbury festival.
The 'Rehab' singer, who stepped in to the pit between the stage and the audience during her performance, claims that she was simply trying to protect herself from a crazed fan who attempted to grab her, before security dragged her to safety.
A source close to the 24-year-old said: "Amy was enjoying herself so much that she went for a walkabout round the stage.
"Suddenly, this person just lunged at her. She was completely shocked and terrified. After all she's still very fragile and vulnerable.
"She isn’t sure whether they were trying to grab her beehive or her boobs — or do her some harm — and in a panic she just tried to protect herself. She didn't mention it when she came off stage. It was only later that a big deal was made out of what amounted to a very small incident.
"Amy had a great time at Glastonbury and isn't going to let the actions of one idiot spoil that."
The soul star, who is suffering from a mild form of emphysema, has agreed to co-operate with police regarding the incident. However, Somerset and Avon's Inspector John Fuller explained that there is no cause for alarm just yet.
He said: "We are aware of the incident taking place. No complaint has yet been made but when one is we will investigate the matter further."
Festival organiser Michael Eavis supported Amy, saying: "The fan deserved it. He grabbed Amy’s breast when she went past him."
Other sources maintain that the incident occurred because the fan aimed a derogatory jibe at her jailed husband, Blake Fielder-Civil.
A witness said: "I could not hear exactly what was said — it was some comment about Blake. Amy reacted by just losing it. She leaned in to the crowd and whacked him."
Winehouse, who also appeared onstage at Nelson Mandela’s 90th birthday charity concert in Hyde Park on Friday night, was whisked back to hospital by a helicopter after her performance, but insisted that it was a very successful weekend.
Her spokesperson said: "Amy had a wonderful weekend and the small incident on Saturday night did not affect her good spirits."
