Legendary South African musician, composer and bandleader Hugh Masekela performs two very special concerts in celebration of his far-reaching and wide-ranging musical career on Friday 26 June and Saturday 27 June at The Teatro at Montecasino.

Joining "Bra Hugh" on stage are the sensational multi-award winning singer, songwriter and recording artist, Thandiswa Mazwai; long time friend, ex Sankomota leader and Gospel soloist, Tsepo "The Village Pope" Tshola and guest violinist, Tsepo Mngoma plus a seven-member choir.

Hugh Masekela & Friends brings together South Africa's finest new and well-loved musical talent for two special not-to-be-missed memorable performances featuring different music genres ranging from jazz to Afrobeat and modern kwaito.

In a life entering its seventh decade Hugh Masekela has played trumpet and flugelhorn and joined musical forces with the likes of Kippie Moeketsi, Paul Simon, Fela Kuti, The Crusaders, Bob Marley, and Miriam Makeba to name but a few.

He has played on stages from the Hollywood Bowl to the Brixton Academy, from Carnegie Hall to the Royal Albert Hall, the Village Gate and Moretele Park, from the Montreux Jazz Festival to the Cape Town International Jazz Festival and innumerable points in between.

Bra Hugh's musical vocabulary has encompassed salsa, samba, mbaqanga, jazz, rock and soul, afro-beat, reggae, and any combination of these he sees fit to engage. He's worked on projects that span from The Rumble In The Jungle to 'Sarafina'.

These concerts will be a retrospective of his illustrious 50-year music career and a celebration of his 70th birthday. The repertoire will include some of Bra Hugh's most popular songs from more than forty recorded albums, his own personal favourites, and material from his newly-released CD 'Phola'.

Woven through with stories and anecdotes from various points in his career, Bra Hugh will perform all-time favourites like 'Stimela', 'Thanayi', 'Happy Mama', 'Lady', and 'Grazing In The Grass' with his new band featuring Erick Paliani on guitar, Lee-Roy Sauls on drums, Fana Zulu on bass and Randal Skippers on keyboards.

Both two-and-a-half-hour performances begin at 8pm.
