Employment equity is slowly taking place in the workplace but not enough black and coloured people were benefiting, chair of the Employment Equity Commission Jimmy Manji said on Monday.

Briefing the media in Pretoria on the 2008/09 annual report, Manji said there "were no shining examples" out of the over 100 Johannesburg Stock Exchange listed companies randomly selected for evaluation.

"We are making progress but it's just too slow," said Manji

The figures show that white males represented 61 percent at the top management level, they enjoy 48 percent of all recruitments and 44.7 percent of all employees promoted to this level.

At the top management level African men represented 9.8 percent, enjoyed 12.6 percent of all recruitment and 12.7 percent of all employees promoted to this level.
