Former Limpopo premier Ngoaka Ramathlodi has been charged with corruption the National Prosecuting Authority said on Thursday.

"The Scorpions have taken a decision to charge Ramatlhodi," said NPA spokesperson Tlali Tlali.

The basis for the corruption charge would not be disclosed, he said.

The NPA would not disclose when Ramatlhodi was charged.

Tlali said the acting National Director of Public Prosecutions Mokotedi Mpshe was hearing representations from Ramatlhodi.

The charges are apparently related to social grant payment kickbacks Ramathlodi was alleged to have received while premier.
