According to Reuters, the outspoken West also posed as Muhammad Ali for the magazine story.
In the article, West complains that his hit 'Gold Digger' should have been nominated for a Grammy as best rap song, despite earning eight nominations including one for best album for 'Late Registration'.
West is no stranger to controversy: he accused US President George W. Bush of racism at a benefit concert for Hurricane Katrina victims last September, and also claimed in a telethon that the US government intended "to help the poor, the black people, the less well-off as slow as possible".
In the Rolling Stone article, West claims that being outspoken is what makes him successful.
"If I was more complacent and let things slide, my life would be easier, but you all wouldn't be as entertained," he said.
