Arctic Monkeys released their latest single without the backing of a record label.
The British rockers – who are currently involved in a bidding war between two record companies – decided to release R U Mine? yesterday (27 February) in order to tie it in with their US tour with The Black Keys, which kicks off on 2 March.
The song, which quickly became a trending topic on Twitter, received largely positive reaction from fans.
After the band - made up of Alex Turner, Jamie Cook, Nick O'Malley and Matt Helders - tweeted: "we still trending? R U Mine? (sic)" fans quickly sung their praises.
One fan posted: "new monkeys song/video R U Mine. im going to try and form a reaction thats at least slightly coherent bur for now: OMGOMG SO GOOD. (sic)"
Another wrote: "R U Mine is the best thing I've heard in forever. (sic)"
While the song seems to be an initial success, frontman Turner recently revealed that he had "forgotten" how to write a chart hit – with their last massive hits coming in 2005 and 2006.
When asked about chart success, he said: "I have f***ing forgotten how to do that. I don't know what that is any more, it's a different landscape these days."
