Zimbabwe is refusing to allow South African pop group Freshlyground to perform in that country.

The internationally acclaimed group was set to perform at the Wild Geese Lodge in Harare next month. But the tour was put on ice, allegedly because the band's new music video, Chicken to Change, takes a satirical look at the reign of Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe.

The recently released music video was a collaboration between Freshlyground and political satire website ZA News.

It stars the likes of a dancing Democratic Alliance leader Helen Zille and Springbok coach Peter de Villiers but most of the video is dedicated to a tongue-in-cheek look at the dictatorial rule of Mugabe.

Freshlyground's public relations team said it would issue a formal statement on Friday and has told Eyewitness News that they are seeking legal advice.
