US rapper Fabolous was shot and wounded in New York City in the early hours of Tuesday and was under arrest pending unspecified charges, police and reports said.

The 28-year-old, whose real name is John Jackson, was shot at a parking lot near a restaurant owned by Sean "Diddy" Combs, New York One television reported.

When asked about the incident, a police spokesperson said that four males had been detained in a car after the shooting, one of them with a gunshot wound to the thigh, and that two handguns had been recovered from the car.

She said that the wounded male was in stable condition in a New York City hospital while the three other men had been taken into custody.

A spokesperson for Fabolous at Def Jam Recordings was not immediately available to comment on the incident.
