South African-born musician Dave Matthews said he was going to keep his promise to perform in the country before the end of next year.

The Dave Matthews Band has released their first studio album in four years called Big Whiskey and the Groo Grux King.

It has been heralded across the world and debuted at the Top of the Billboard 200 Chart.

Matthews told Eyewitness News he was intent on performing for local fans either before or during the 2010 FIFA World Cup.

"I've been telling my friends that is where I plan being so it might be before the World Cup but it's in hard talk so I plan on being there next year so I don't turn myself into a liar."
