R&B superstar Akon surprised locals when he shot scenes for his new music video in Soweto.

The 'Lonely' hitmaker, who has recently collaborated with stars like Lionel Richie and Michael Jackson, was greeted by throngs of fans when he arrived to film sequences for 'We Don't Care'.

With the singer giving "a real, live in the 'hood performance" in Soweto, according to the clip's director Gill Green, the idea behind the video is to show the hard-working Akon on the road.

To that end, the star and the video crew have visited Paris and London, and are still due to stop off at Angola.

"Akon is like a machine, he doesn't stop, and we're documenting that for the first time," Green explained.
