Cape Town-based rock trio Gravity Wins Again have embraced the current state of the music industry and are using it to their advantage, putting their new five-track EP 'love.hate.cake' online for pre-order.
By offering fans a choice of three different pre-order packages loaded with more free bonuses than you can shake a proverbial stick at, the band hope to be able to raise the money they need to complete the mixing, mastering and printing of their new EP, which they have been working on for most of 2008 at Cape Town’s Dockyard Studios with SAMA-nominated Matt Allison.
In return for support and faith in them, the band (Gareth Allison - vocals and guitar, Nic Smal - drums and backing vocals, Drew Maunder - bass) will reward folks who pre-order the disc at www.lovehatecake.co.za with free merchandise, an additional acoustic mini-EP, cake and coffee vouchers at a renowned coffee franchise, a personal thank you in the printed EP booklet, bonus live videos and video interviews as well as several more surprises, including an invite-only live show.
"We really value our friends and fans who take the time to listen to our music, come to our shows and support us wholeheartedly," says frontman Gareth Allison (no relation to producer Matt Allison). "This is our way of saying thank you to everyone who helps us put this CD out — by making it more than worth their while with a ton of free stuff. We can’t do this without them!"
To give a small taste of what fans can expect, as well as an indication of the quality of the recording, GWA have released the scorching first single 'Bail Me Out'. The rollicking, catchy song is available as a free high-quality MP3 download from their official site at www.gravitywinsagain.com and can also be heard on the official pre-order site at www.lovehatecake.co.za. Plans are also underway to shoot a music video for the song in October.
Fans who wish to pre-order will be happy to know that a credit card is not needed to order a package. The site works exclusively on direct bank deposit, as well as internet banking transfers for their safety and peace of mind.
Since forming as a solo acoustic act in 2004 and touring the country several times, Gravity Wins Again expanded into a fully-fledged rock band in 2007 and have been playing shows all over the Western Cape as well as Gauteng. They released their seven-track debut EP 'The Lesser Of Two Evils Is Evil Nonetheless' in 2006, and have a strong international online following on both Myspace and Facebook.
