Cassette score 3/5

The young man whose face and voice have sparked off more mass vapours, romantic dreams and unbridled adulation with the ladies (and quite a number of 'metro-males') than any other modern crooner has done it again with another batch of syrupy love songs.

I have never quite understood Michael Buble's mass appeal. His voice is really not all that special (in fact, quite weak at times), yet he pulls record audiences and his albums sell by the millions.

Realising that his main fan audience tends to be older rather than younger this time round he has taken aboard the service of Sharon Jones and The Dap-Kings, Naturally 7 and Ron Sexsmith obviously with the hope of strengthening his grip on the younger market.

But for most of the songs on this album he sticks to the formula that works so well for him by adding the Buble touch to sing-along tunes such as 'Cry Me a River', 'Georgia On My Mind' and 'All I Do Is Dream Of You'.

However, where things start going a little awry for him is when the pace moves up-tempo and he tries to keep up ? let alone match ? the raunchy voice of Sharon Jones in 'Baby You've Got What It Takes'.

He also has a go in another popular thumper, 'Heartache Tonight', but with this one, too, he sounds a little uncomfortable and out of his depth. He clearly doesn't do "raunchy" well at all and should really stick to his own brand of sugar-sweet moonlight and romance.

But no doubt his fans will lap up whatever he sings and snatch up this Crazy Love album by the zillions in spite of ? or even because of ? his rather half-hearted steps into the bubble-gum world of pop.
