Eminem scores 3/5

Her voice became familiar thanks to her featured performance on Timbaland's 2007 smash hit, 'The Way I Are', and on her debut album, Keri Hilson has the uber-producer’s help in turn — he acts as executive producer.

Ms Hilson, who's been a songwriter to the stars since 2001 with hits like Britney Spears' 'Gimme More' and Mary J Blige's 'Take Me As I Am', is a capable singer, and her album is slick R&B with a hip-hop edge.

But, despite cameos by Kanye West, golden boy Ne-Yo, Lil' Wayne, Akon and Timbaland himself, the album doesn't produce a standout track that makes you go back for more.

Instead, the tracks mostly sound too similar, with the Timbaland-produced tracks especially sounding tired after three years of radio-driven over-exposure to the producer's endlessly-repeated tricks.

Still, she proves she can deliver on the slow stuff ('Slow Dance' and 'Make Love'), and her dance-floor credentials are enhanced by tracks like 'Change Me' (with Akon), as well as the inclusion of 'The Way I Are' and 'Scream' (both credited as "Timbaland featuring Keri Hilson").

This is a star-studded album with an impressive pedigree, and if you like R&B that gets close to — but doesn't quite reach — edginess, Keri will please.
