Just days after Chris Chameleon's new Afrikaans CD, 'Kyk Hoe Lyk Ons Nou' hit the shelves, he was nominated in five categories for the prestigious South African Music Awards.
But although these nods, which include 'Best Male Artist', were all for a previous album 'Klassieke Chameleon', they prove that the former Boo! frontman is a talented and highly rated artist.
So, onto the album in question.
Having been born out of a television series ? also entitled 'Kyk Hoe Lyk Ons Nou' ? it again offers something different from the artist. If you're not familiar with Chameleon, you may well be pleasantly surprised by this collection which is slickly produced by Theo Crous in the style of his work with Flat Stanley.
However, while tracks like 'Taal Van Die Liefde', 'Ek Kan Nie Wag Nie' and 'Altyd Tuis' make it worth listening to, there are some cheesy songs and even one that will have the same effect on you as that screeching noise when you rub two pieces of polystyrene together.
That irritation is 'Apie' ? a track that sounds like a self-portrait of somebody trying to fight off his own demons.
Nevertheless 'Kyk Hoe Lyk Ons Nou' remains a mature, accomplished album from an artist in his prime.
Got something to say?
