Lira scores 3.5/5

"My music has to be empowering," Lira says.

'Soul In Mind' is just that.

"I don't want to bring anything negative into my music yet do that in way that is not preachy," continues this young South African beauty.

Her latest album is beautiful, she's grown as a musician since 2006's 'Feel Good' and is clearly comfortable with her music.

Lira's sound is soft, feminine and jazzy ? this 13-track collection will consume you and make you feel good about yourself. Just as she'd hoped.

The first single, characteristically upbeat 'Wampayeya' ('Don't Run Away'), has rightly been topping local radio charts, while the even more celebratory ?Celebrating Life? should be a big hit in clubs.

Continuing the good vibes, 'Made For Me' embraces an old school sound, while 'It's Alright' really emphasises her femininity.

She's soulful and joyful ? 'Soul In Mind' makes you forget about everything going wrong and appreciate life instead.

It's not all about good times, though. 'Hamba' documents a relationship gone bad, while 'Believer' is a personal exploration of love but, as always, Lira's music is pure and her sound cool and refreshing.

This really is the work of "a woman getting into her own skin, of finding her own creative voice and exploring the music that people heard on 'Feel Good' but taking it much deeper".
