CapeTown reggae-rockers 7th Son are flying high with the release of their latest album 'Ontology'.
About to hit the road again to bring the new music to the fans, frontman Nic Gaud took some time out to shoot the breeze about beer, "vibe", getting the party started, and why desk jobs aren't for him.
How the devil are you?
Two arms, two legs? Can't complain!
Do you think you are a celebrity?
No. Why, do you?
What word do you use or overuse?
"Vibe"
It's my round — what are you drinking?
Black Label. Ask for it by name.
What's in your pocket right now?
Cell phone, cigarettes, wallet with no money, chewing gum
Pick five words to describe yourself:
"I'm good, just ask me"
You meet a nice lady — what's your opening line?
I take it you are looking for the brass section... They're over there?
How do you get the party started?
Bottle of Klippies, two litres of Coke, and some Sublime full tilt.
If you didn't sing, what would you do?
I'd probably try to do something else out of the ordinary — desk jobs aren't for me. Professional breast stroke without the swimming?
You are having a dinner party — name four famous people you would invite:
Dave Grohl, Zach de la Rocha, Jimmy Page, Eddie Vedder
Who was the last person you punched?
I dunno — probably one of the guys in the band!
When was the last time you cried?
Dude, frontmen don't cry. Ok...
Which living person do you despise?
No one really — "despise" is a strong word.
What are your fears?
What fear?
Name your all-time greatest musician and song:
Jeez, tough question. The artist would have to be a toss up between Bob Marley and Bradley Nowell from Sublime. The song? I dunno... there are too many to choose?
Name your top desert island discs:
It would have to be a mix tape featuring Led Zeppelin, The Who, The Stones, Sublime, Pennywise, Pearl Jam, Foo Fighters, Rage Against the Machine, Long Beach Dub Allstars, Bob Marley, The Police, The Raconteurs, Pepper, Coheed and Cambria, and Soundgarden
What is perfect happiness?
Being on tour with any one of the above mentioned bands. Playing music around the world for a living. Just cruising life with you and your friends, with a few good waves and a couple of cold beers along the way. Sounds pretty perfect to me.
What advertising slogan would best describe you?
Rude, Rock, Reggae.
