Michael Bublé scores 4/5

Some say he is the reincarnation of Frank Sinatra. Some say he is even better. Most agree that he is exceptionally talented, with a voice made for Big Band music and many hours of listening pleasure.

The bottom line is that Michael Bublé and his brand of music is hugely popular all over the world, even with younger listening audiences in spite of his “Mom and Pop and The Good Old Days” singing style and song selection.

Quite incredibly he has sold more than 11 million recordings, even though 'Call Me Irresponsible' is only his third album.

His style is a classic mix of The Mills Brothers, Sinatra, Kurt Weill (remember 'Mack the Knife'?), Dean Martin and others of that ilk, yet there is absolutely nothing dated, boring or old fashioned about the man’s music.

It’s seriously good and yes, my dear old Mum would have loved it. But so do I. And so does my daughter — and that’s the Bublé magic at work.

He doesn’t stray far from his familiar style and, as usual, the majority of the tunes he's selected are instantly recognisable classics such as 'Me and Mrs Jones', 'Call Me Irresponsible', 'Wonderful Tonight' and 'Always On My Mind'… The sort of songs that one can go back to time and time again.

Unsurprisingly, Bublé’s two original songs don’t quite hold their own in such esteemed company, but the acoustic-guitar driven 'Everything' (again co-written with the team behind his hit ballad 'Home') sits comfortably alongside the other 12 tracks of 'Call Me Irresponsible'.

One of the finest collections of really good, easy listening swing to hit the record stores for a long time. Buy it for the Old Man for Father’s Day. He’d love you even more for it.
