Chicago fans will freak over this album ? it is the most comprehensive collection of their music that has ever been put together and it features 39 of their very best numbers.
If you have ever been a fan you will recognise classics such 'If You leave me Now'; 'Will You Still Love Me'; '25 OR 6 TO 4'; 'Another Rainy Day in New York City'; 'Street Player' and 'Along Comes a Woman'. And there is a lot more where that comes from on the two discs in this collection.
Amazing to think that this super group first hit the air waves more than 30 years ago. What made them stand out from the other groups at the time was the fact that they were the first rock group to feature a horn section. And not only as backing, but often as lead instruments.
The seven-member group went through a couple of name changes, calling themselves The Big Thing, the Chicago Transit Authority and Chicago 11 until they eventually settled on Chicago.
A talented group whose strange sound mix of jazz, R&B and hard rock initially sounded like stoned improvisation rather than a specific musical direction. But not for long, for almost overnight they struck gold. The radio stations gave them plenty of time and their following rocketed.
Within a couple of years 15 of their albums would hit the platinum mark, selling more than 1 million copies each. Chicago seemed to grow and grow in stature, producing hits up until the early nineties.
And even though their long run appears to have fizzled out they certainly built a monument in the world of rock and this album is a fine tribute to one of the finest rock bands ever.
