The Princess and the Frog
Voices of Anika Noni Rose and Bruno Campos
Directed by Ron Clements and John Musker
Release date: 29 January

It's been a long time since we've seen any 'classic' Disney. Yes, we have Hannah Montana and 'Finding Nemo', but I'm talking vintage, hand-drawn animation complete with the legendary music.

Now it's back. Disney provides a modern twist on a classic tale, featuring Tiana (Disney's first African-American princess), a frog prince who desperately wants to be human again, and a fateful kiss that leads them both on an adventure through Louisiana's swamps.

Fortunately we don't have to wait too long, as this film is being released on 29 January.

Up in the Air
Starring George Clooney, Vera Farmiga
Directed by Jason Reitman
Release date: 29 January

Although this movie hasn't received much attention in South Africa yet, it's already being tipped for Golden Globe and Oscar honours.

Based on the novel by Walter Kirn, the movie tells the story of corporate downsizing expert Ryan Bingham (played by Clooney) who makes his living travelling across the country, firing people.

His lifestyle is threatened by a young, female executive and, determined to stand his ground, Bingham takes her on one of his cross country firing expeditions.

Alice in Wonderland
Starring Johnny Depp, Mia Wasikowska
Directed by Tim Burton
Release date: 5 March

Tim Burton spins his gothic magic over one of the best-loved tales of all time.

The traditional tale has been freshened with a blast of 'girl power', Alice, now 19, attends a party at a Victorian estate only to find she is about to be proposed to in front of hundreds of snooty society types. Off she runs, following a white rabbit into a hole and ending up in Wonderland, a place she visited 10 years before yet doesn't remember.

Among those who welcome her back is the Mad Hatter, a part tailor-made for Johnny Depp.

This film is a little darker than the original Disney version, but it should be a wild 3D ride with some superb acting.

Iron Man 2
Starring Robert Downey Jr, Gwyneth Paltrow
Directed by Jon Favreau
Release date: 30 April

Robert Downey Jr has had a phenomenal past few years, with one of the triumphs of his career being the staggering success of comic-book adaptation 'Iron Man'. He returns as billionaire inventor with Gwyneth Paltrow again as Pepper Potts.

With the world now aware of his dual life as the armoured superhero Iron Man, billionaire inventor Tony Stark faces pressure from the government, the press, and the public to share his technology with the military. Unwilling to let go of his invention, Stark, along with Pepper, and James "Rhodey" Rhodes (played by Don Cheadle) at his side, must forge new alliances ? and confront powerful enemies.

Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time
Starring Jake Gyllenhaal
Directed by Mike Newell
Release date: 28 May

Based on the hit computer game of the same name, the film tells the story of Dastan (played by Jake Gyllenhaal), a street urchin in 6th century Persia. After showing valor in battle, he is adopted by the king as his heir, so that the king's two sons will not fight over the throne.

Dastan must team up with Princess Tamina to rescue the Sands of Time, a gift from the gods that controls time, from the hands of the villainous nobleman, Nizam, before the world is destroyed.
