Russell Brand is in talks to star in and produce new movie Cupid.
The Rock of Ages actor — whose divorce from singer Katy Perry was finalised last month — is set to play the titular character in Joe Nussbaum's romantic comedy after Warner Bros. acquired the pitch for the 37-year-old comedian and Nik Linnen to produce.
The motion picture is set in the present day and will see Cupid — who is expected to be a more cynical version of the Greek God of affection, desire and love — tasked with creating a perfect romance.
Brand is also thought to be in talks to take on the lead role in raunchy comedy Pierre Pierre, which tells the story of a Frenchman who believes the human race has no meaning or purpose and embarks on a tricky journey from Paris to London to transport a stolen Mona Lisa painting.
The Despicable Me 2 star's latest movie role saw him portray Sunset Strip nightclub manager Lonny Barnett in Rock of Ages alongside Tom Cruise, Alec Baldwin, Julianne Hough and Catherine Zeta-Jones.
