Benicio del Toro is set to star in Jimmy Picard.
The Che star will take on the lead role in Arnaud Desplechin's drama which has been adapted from Psychotherapy Of A Plains Indian by ethnologist and psychologist Georges Devereux.
The movie will tell the true story of a friendship between a Native American soldier (Del Toro) identified under the alias Jimmy Picard — and a French psychoanalyst (Mathieu Amalric).
It follows Picard as he returns from World War II suffering from a variety of symptoms, for which no physical cause can be found.
After being referred to the famous Winter Hospital in Kansas, he strikes up a friendship with Devereux through his counselling sessions.
The movie will also star Gina McKee.
Last year del Toro pulled out of negotiations to appear in Star Trek 2. He had been in talks to play the lead bad guy in the forthcoming J.J. Abrams-directed sequel — starring Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto and Zoe Saldana — but "monetary issues" ended chances of him starring.
He will next be seen in Oliver Stone's Savages. He recently joined the cast of Agent: Century 21 alongside Cameron Diaz.
