The movie 'White Wedding' has been chosen as South Africa's entry for the annual Academy Awards next year.
The selection for the movie to compete in the best foreign language film category was made by The National Film and Video Foundation.
Azania Muendane of The National Film and Video Foundation said the comedy was chosen because of its high production values, reports Eyewitness News.
"It is a beautiful romantic comedy in complete reference to South Africa," said Muendane.
The multi-lingual film is about the eventful journey of a groom and his best man who drive to Cape Town for a wedding and a bride who wants a fancy private ceremony in Camps Bay while her mother wants a traditional township wedding.
The movie is directed by Jann Turner and stars Rapulana Seiphemo and Kenneth Nkosi — who both also acted as producers.
'White Wedding' made R1-million at the box office during the first week of its release in April 2009.
The South African movie 'Tsotsi' won the Oscar in the same category in 2006.
