'District 9' has topped yet another box office.

The South African sci-fi movie took the number one spot at the British box office, raking in over R24-million.

In the process it knocked movies like 'The Final Destination' and the romantic-comedy newcomer '(500) Days of Summer' down to second and third places respectively.

Quentin Tarantino's film 'Inglourious Basterds' went down from second place to number four and 'Funny People' starring comedian Adam Sandler fell from third place to fifth.

'District 9' tells the story of a malnourished alien race that's transferred to a ghetto in Johannesburg. The movie was directed by South African Neill Blomkamp and produced by 'Lord of the Rings' director Peter Jackson.

It was shot on location in Soweto with a budget of R228-million.
