Steven Spielberg and the late writer Michael Crichton, the creative team behind 'Jurassic Park', are collaborating again.

The 'Indiana Jones' director is working on a film based on the author's forthcoming book 'Pirate Latitudes'.

The novel is described by Spielberg's Dream Works Studios as "a daring plan to infiltrate Port Royal, one of the world's richest and most notorious cities, and raid a Spanish galleon filled with treasure".

It is being adapted for the screen by David Koepp, who did the same for 'Jurassic Park' and its sequel 'The Lost World'.

"Anything that Michael wrote, Steven would be keenly interested to read," Dream Works CEO Stacey Snider told USA Today.

"But without Michael knowing it, or even me knowing it, it turns out Steven always wanted to direct his own pirate film."

So Spielberg, who currently plans to produce the film, is considering filling the directors chair as well.

"Michael wrote a real page-turner that already seems suited for the big screen," Spielberg said of 'Pirate Latitudes', which is published in November.

"Michael and I have had almost two decades of solid collaborations. Whenever I made a film from a Michael Crichton book or screenplay, I knew I was in good hands. Michael felt the same, and we like to think he still does."

Apart from the dinosaur films, Spielberg and Crichton collaborated on the film 'Twister' and the long-running TV series 'ER'.
